Exams
Dance exams are a structured, motivating, and growth-oriented component that help students, parents, and teachers alike see the benefits of focused practice, commitment, and achievement. Exams also provide a pathway to qualifications in dance and a career as a dance teacher.
Exams are offered annually at Caper (participation optional) and all students who participate receive a certificate from the exam organisation and a report. All exam candidates are further rewarded with a memento from Caper for their efforts. All this recognition is designed to encourage the students and foster their confidence and self esteem.
We are proud to offer exams and work with formalised teaching standards and internationally recognised syllabi.
Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Exams (RAD)
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus is taught in all ballet classes at Caper. All our ballet teachers have trained in RAD or are qualified with the RAD Teaching Certificate.
The RAD is one of the world’s most influential dance education and training organisations, with its global headquarters in London. It is renowned for its commitment to improving the standards of dance teaching and encouraging children to learn to dance.
Caper offers RAD exams from the Primary level right up to vocational grades (Advanced).
The knowledge of an upcoming exam can bring more focus and motivation to students’ daily practices. It can give students that extra push to put in their best effort during regular classes. For younger students, exams also give parents a way to observe and understand their child’s progress, which can increase support and pride in their achievements.
Glenn Wood Tap
Tap Exams (GWT)
Tap exams are offered to students in the Pre-Intermediate level (Year 2 and Year 3) and up.
All our tap teachers are trained in the GWT syllabus and we even have a GWT examiner as part of our permanent faculty. This means our teachers receive constant liaison, mentoring and training from an exam.
Passing exams gives students a sense of accomplishment, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. These achievements are tangible milestones that they can be proud of, and can inspire them to reach even higher levels in their dance education.
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO DO EXAMS?
At Caper, exams are optional, but all students receive the same high level of training and inclusion, regardless of whether they choose to take exams.
The availability of exams benefits every student at Caper. Even if a student isn’t participating in exams, parents can be assured that their child is learning in alignment with national and international standards. Our curriculum and teaching methods are built to meet dance education guidelines, and by offering exams, we welcome impartial accountability for our practices. Additionally, if a student later decides to pursue an exam, they can easily do so, as all of our classes are taught in line with the exam curriculum.
